NMF National Volunteer Network Volunteer Job Description

Job Title:  Medical Exhibit Booth Staff

Reports to: Director of Education and Public Awareness
  800/862-7326 x. 16

Time Commitment/Frequency: 
Varies, dependant on exhibit opportunity in your hometown.
Staffing shifts usually range from 3 hours to full day

Location: Medical meetings generally occur in major “destination” cities:
Seattle, San Francisco, LA, San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Denver, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Atlanta, New Orleans, Charlotte, Washington DC, Philadelphia.

Goals and Objectives of this job:

  • Educate medical professionals about Marfan syndrome and the services of the National Marfan Foundation at medical conference exhibition halls

Type of work: 

  • Staffing exhibit booth/information table
  • Face to face education and awareness raising

Volunteer skills/attributes:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Professional/neat appearance
  • Good understanding of Marfan syndrome and the ability to verbalize key issues surrounding diagnosis and treatment of the disorder
  • Outgoing and assertive in approaching people in booth

Job responsibilities and tasks:

  • Staff exhibit booth at conference exhibits
  • Engage passers-by in conversation about the NMF and Marfan syndrome
  • Distribute literature and collect contact information that are interested in being on the mailing list
  • Assist in setting up/breaking down exhibit if necessary
  • Also occasionally utilize local volunteer as point-person in recruiting/coordinating local volunteers

Special training required:

  • Coaching with Director of Programs or Volunteer Coordinator
  • Good understanding of Marfan syndrome and ability to engage in conversation about the disorder

Related policies/evaluation:

  • Must be well-spoken volunteer since they will be representing the NMF.  

Evaluation:

  • A successful exhibit will result in a significant number of medical professionals being added to the mailing list (number determined by size of the particular exhibit) and dissemination of literature.

The NMF office will distribute surveys or evaluation forms at appropriate times.  It is part of the volunteer commitment to return these forms as requested.
