Media Spokesperson Job Description

NMF NATIONAL VOLUNTEER NETWORK VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION 

Job Title: Media Spokesperson

Reports to:  Eileen Masciale, Consulting Director of Communications

Time commitment/frequency:  On an as-needed basis to fit in your schedule; based on interview opportunities secured by NMF or by local volunteers.

Description of responsibilities and related tasks:

  • Discuss personal experience with the Marfan syndrome with the media – by phone, in-studio or at local doctor’s office or hospital (travel would be within local geographic area; be comfortable sharing experiences for print media, for television, for radio.
  • Communicate with NMF (Eileen Masciale) about interview.

Special training required:

A brief training session (by phone) with Eileen Masciale to learn how to tell your personal story succinctly, while communicating key Marfan syndrome messages.

Evaluation procedures:

  • Determine how interview went. Were key messages about Marfan syndrome included?
  • Was interview included in the article? Did it help expand the focus of the article?
  • Follow-up procedures with media:  Was a relationship established?  Was thank you letter sent? Are there opportunities for additional media coverage?

        

The NMF office will distribute surveys or evaluation forms at appropriate times.  It is part of the volunteer commitment to return these forms as requested.
